Remember reading our ‘5 things to look forward to at this year’s Bestival’ piece, a couple of months back? We’d originally planned to follow this up with our top 5 best bits, having arrived back in London from the festival on the Monday (very muddy). But after a weekend of rocking and raving amidst colouring chaos, we can’t decide on 5. So, here are the 7 things we loved the most from our weekend at Lulworth Estate, Dorset.
Rolling hills and a stunning early 17th-century castle, combined with the usual sprinkling of Bestival charm provided a beautiful backdrop for the festival. On the final night, the firework display over the castle was truly magical, following an epic show from the Pet Shop Boys. The crowd were getting teary, and we’ll remember it forever.
Pet Shop Boys
Playing classics like ‘Go West’ and ‘It’s A Sin’ as well as new material, they had the entire crowd at the Castle Stage going wild. The awesome stage artwork put the cherry on the top of a truly legendary set.
Yep – the huge inflatable of Kanye West’s head by creatives at the Hungry Castle did not disappoint. That grin. Those rainbow hues. We wished there had been merch to bring home – mini #HappyKanye for our shelf? Yes please. He did have to go down during heavy rain and wind, but that only made it all the more exciting when pumped back up again. Words we never thought we’d write.
All that wind and rain did come with some pros, we promise. The often dull skies and always brown fields tried their damndest to ruin Bestival’s Year of Colour. But ‘ha’! It didn’t. Garish glitter, lairy lycra and mad makeup adorned the crowds, who came together in true British spirit, soldiering on through high winds and torrential downpours.
Thanks to the Bestival team for working super hard to keep us all safe, dry and smiling.
Club classics and the BIGGEST beats. With DJs spinning banger after banger, it was our disco rain shelter – we spent hours dancing here!
You know when you watch classic acts, and all you care about is their old material? Not with Dizzee – his new tracks had everyone jumping as much as the old bangers. The Castle Stage performance threw us back to our school years – and we bloody loved it.
Two words – Purple Rave. Bestival founder Rob da Bank put on an amazing tribute to Prince, one of our favourite artists of all time, and we danced hard. This, along with Saturday night’s outrageously fabulous Sink The Pink party made boarding HMS Bestival our favourite part of the whole festival. We’re already excited to set sail again next year.
