When it comes to festivals, it’s safe to say that Europe is the place to be if you want something a little on the obscure, out-of-the-ordinary side. There are festivals to suit all ages, tastes and preferences, no matter how niche. So, if you’re looking for something a bit different to do in Europe this summer, check out these festivals that are taking place over the next few months.
Ultra Europe, Croatia
Situated in stunning Split, Croatia, Ultra Europe takes place from the 14th-17th July. It comes all the way from across the Atlantic in Miami, and will feature top DJ’s such as Armin van Buuren, David Guetta and Alesso. Jam-packed with firework displays, light shows and people who love to party, Ultra Europe is the ideal festival for dance music lovers. Croatia is gorgeous at this time of year, too, and what could be better than good music, fun and sun?
Meadows in the Mountains, Bulgaria
On the 9th, 10th and 11th June 2017, Meadows in the Mountains is taking place in the idyllic Rhodopes Mountains in Bulgaria, 850m above sea level near a village called Polkovnik Serafimovo. The festival itself has a wild camping vibe about it, with bonfires, bunting in the trees and small stages all around. It aims to bring people together as a sort of social experiment, and operates on a strict ‘leave no trace’ policy when it comes to festival waste. Festival-goers are to bring a drinking container for alcoholic beverages, and a portable ashtray if they’re a smoker. The festival is chilled and full of open-minded people in the midst of nature.
Mandrea Music Festival, Italy
The Mandrea Music Festival is taking place on the 16th-20th August in the foothills of the Italian Alps by the stunning Lake Garda. Perfect for reggae lovers, this festival is an underrated event with an eclectic line-up. Included in the list are Sam and the Womp and Earth Beat Movement, among many others. The festival offers not only great reggae music but also a skate park, a cinema and lots of performance workshops.
Into the Valley, Estonia
Into The Valley was located at Dalhalla, an other-worldly former quarry with a bright turquoise pool at the bottom. This year, it’s being held in Rummu, Estonia, and is taking place from the 29th June until the 1st July. It brings cutting-edge electronic music, and this year’s line-up includes acts such as DJ Stingray, Axel Boman and The Black Madonna. It’s safe to say that Into the Valley is great for fans of non-mainstream music!
Traena Festival, Norway
Traena is one of the smallest places in Norway, and is essentially a tiny island in northern Norway, surrounded by a glistening ocean. The cutting-edge music originates from Norway itself, and every one of the island’s 500 residents takes part in welcoming guests from all over the world. It’s taking place on the 6th-9th July.
