This year, HMS Bestival sets sail from its usual port of the Isle of Wight, to Lulworth Estate in mainland Dorset for a brand new adventure. And with four incredible headliners, a huge bill of music, and an even HUGER inflatable of Kanye West’s head, it’s quite the shipment.
2017 is Bestival’s Year of Colour, and we’re expecting sights and sounds that’ll have rainbows shooting out of our eyes and ears. Here’s our top five reasons why:
Have you HEARD the reviews they’ve been getting this summer? Playing at the Castle Stage – with a real-life castle set in beautiful woodland – we can only imagine the hundreds of tingles our spines will encounter. When it comes to festivals, “the moral of the story is enjoy yourself. Really enjoy yourself” – we couldn’t agree more, Oliver Sim (vocalist & bassist). September can’t come quicker.
This year, Bestival’s on a mission to Increase The Peace and from the sounds of it, they’ve got quite the checklist ticked off already. Enrich your soul in the Ambient Forest, where soothing grooves will reinstate the energy you lost back in the rave tent. Then get Lost in the Woods, ramping up the colour vibes in the depths of the Dorset woodland. We could go on, but we’re too busy getting meditative at the thought of it. Ommmmmm.
The outrageously fabulous Sink The Pink return to the HMS Bestival stage – a life-size ship docked on the Lulworth fields. They will be accompanied by UK garage pioneers DJ Luck & MC Neat, who will be throwing a pool party aboard the ship with fellow two-steppers Oxide & Neutrino, and east London queer clubnights Buttmitzvah and Hard Cock Life will round up the ship’s weekend line-up.
Pet Shop Boys
Synth Godfather’s the Pet Shop Boys will be helping the Bestival crew ‘Go West’ as the Geordie boys are set to close the first weekend at the new grounds in Lulworth. Expect boundary pushing pop classics like ‘It’s A Sin’ and ‘West End Girls’ along with new material from their latest offering, Super.
Teaming up with the ground-breaking creatives at the Hungry Castle, this year’s Bestival brings with it an inflatable art piece big enough to rival its namesake’s ego. Behold, Happy Kanye! We, at The Echelon, cannot wait to see this in all its glory. Instagram selfie’s at the ready.
Rob da Bank, the Founder, says: “Well what an adventure this promises to be… we have a beautiful new home with a massive castle in the middle of it, acres of beautiful woodland and forest, a sea view and the dramatic Jurassic coastline. Going back to our roots with Josie da Bank’s hand-drawn artwork, reviving all our favourite stages from 14 years of Bestival history and going out with all our headliners for the first time ever together, we’re pretty excited at Bestival HQ. From pop to grime, hip-hop to techno, folk to classical and every style in between we are reclaiming our place as the fun-est, most adventurous, musically savvy and downright magical festival on the map. Please come along for the ride. and remember Increase the Peace”.
