Plant-based heaven | Karuna Life’s autumn retreat

Eat. Sleep. Stretch. Repeat.

Well, not quite – but it’s not far off what Karuna Life had in store for me at their Cotswolds weekend retreat. Along with their warm hospitality and delicious vegan spreads, throw in twice-daily yoga, bike rides, walks in the country, a meditation workshop and a restorative massage – and you’ve got the full package. Read more about the people who made this weekend so special, and why we recommend their retreats to anyone reading, particularly Londoners.

Our home for the weekend

Gilboa Barn was the chosen setting for Karuna Life’s first retreat – and wow was it beautiful. Nestled between Tetbury and Malmesbury in the Cotswolds, we got a train from Paddington to Kemble and a cab from there. It was all pretty stress-free, kind on the pocket and an ideal distance from London for a long weekend’s escape.

Plant-based powerhouses – Karuna Life

Rachel and Robert (aka Karuna Life) pride themselves on offering 100% home-cooked, gourmet vegan food. Having attended a few retreats, we’ve never been treated to such spectacular food, meal after meal. Pictures speak a thousand words, so let me just drop these in here and hope you don’t drool over your phone keypad too hard:

As amazing chefs and even nicer people, they brought a real warmth to the retreat that had both tummies and faces smiling all round.

Check out their Instagram for tons of recipe inspo and news on upcoming retreats – we’re already excited for their next, for that chocolate cake alone…

Lizzy LDN brought the flow

East London yogi Lizzy Edwards helped us stretch and breathe our city stresses away, in twice-daily vinyasa flow sessions. With an open-to-all-levels approach, a soothing music selection and showing real care and attention to the whole class, Lizzy really brought the zen to Gilboa Barn – and made me fall in love with yoga even harder.

In the London or Bristol area? Lizzy’s coming to a town near you with health / emotional wealth workshops – head to Lizzy’s Instagram for a touch of her magic.

Meditation and massage

The weekend wouldn’t have been complete without full body massages from Vee, and a meditation workshop run by a fellow guest Olivia. Olivia’s wealth of knowledge really did inspire me to invest more time in meditation, something I want to share more on for our readers – keep an eye out for a future post.

Our verdict?

We left London on a Friday night feeling, well, Londony and stressed. Coming back? We had a clear head (except the new vegan repertoire we’d picked up), a sense of relaxation and a bag packed with healthy treats. Oh, and a few new friends to boot.
