5 things we’re excited to get up to this May

Hip Hop Brunch

You got a hundred dollar bill, get your hands up! After the fun we had at Hip Hop LDN’s Garage Brunch last month, there’s no way we were passing up the opportunity to head to their award-winning Hip Hop Brunch on May 5th. And as the brunch turns four, it’s only right to get a headline who’ll give justice to the birthday atmosphere. In the world of hip hop and beats, there is no greater hype man than Fatman Scoop (excited, much?)

Hop Hop brunch’s three course ‘Dirty South’ lunch menu will be served up alongside one hour of bottomless cocktails to start the day. Guests will dine to the beats of Fatman Scoop and entertained by MC hosts, award-winning magicians plus have the chance to get temporary tattoos from specially curated artists. All attendees will dance the afternoon away and, of course, partake in the infamous Hip Hop Karaoke (try and stop us).

Great British Mysteries? at Soho Theatre

Following a hugely successful sold-out Edinburgh Fringe debut last year, Great British Mysteries? – the sleuthing double act who are fast gaining a cult following – are coming to Soho Theatre to bring audiences five nights of spooky mystery-solving delight.

Audiences are invited to join our intrepid sleuths, Will Close and Rose Robinson, in this live mockumentary adventure investigating every cult phenomenon to have baffled the British public, from Jack the Ripper through to Noel Edmonds.

Half sketch comedy, half TED Talk and half mystery thriller, Great British Mysteries? combines supernatural investigation with a haze machine on full power.

The Royal Wedding

We can’t think of a better place to celebrate this truly British affair than in our beloved capital city. But with so many venues to choose from, you might be struggling to decide where to tune in. So, helpful-as-ever Design My Night have pulled together a pretty decent list from brunches, to mock-receptions and drag specials all airing Harry and Meghan’s big day. Wherever you’re watching, expect tears.

All Points East Festival

Kicking off the festival season, we’re spending the first part of our bank holiday weekend at All Points East – a brand new ten day event in East London’s beautiful Victoria Park. It consists of a three day music festival, community focused programme of midweek entertainment and three huge APE Presents headline shows.

We’re going to be catching headliners The xx, Lorde, Justice and Sampha on the Saturday, with other headliners including LCD Soundsystem, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the legendary Bjork. We can taste the cold cider already.

Gala Festival

GALA is an intimate one-day celebration of great music, food and drink – sounds a pretty decent way to continue the 3 day weekend. Nestled away on the grassy banks of Peckham Rye Park, you’ll find their brand-new site, and acts performing include Horse Meat Disco, Midland, Derrick Carter, Mr Scruff and tons more.

Foodwise, some of our London faves are heading south to hit the festival: Honest Burgers, The Cheese Truck, Hanoi Kitchen, Nonna’s Gelato… we could go on, but, it’s making us too hungry.
