Hidden under the railway arches of Waterloo, this summer you’ll discover the exciting world of The Vaults presents Sounds and Sorcery – a new immersive music concert experience, inspired by Disney’s Fantasia.
The destination’s so tucked away that it can be tricky to find, in a charming way adding to the magic. But more practically, leave a little extra time to allow Google Maps its thinking time before finally leading you to the entrance (in a graffiti tunnel – an Instagrammer’s haven, even before you’ve entered).
On arrival, you’ll collect your headphones at the door and step inside the tunnels. Then, it’s time for a dance with a funky hippo, a walk in a dark prehistoric wasteland, to seek out the fairies in an enchanted forest, or, if you dare, sneak into the Sorcerer’s Lair and experience the eerie majesty of Bare Mountain.
Each room reveals a fantastical environment using a combination of cutting-edge binaural sound, 3D projections, elaborate set designs and dazzling lighting effects to reimagine the many worlds of Disney Fantasia. Take a front row seat in the Sorcerer’s lair and you should expect to get wet…
Impressively, under the musical direction of Stephen Higgins, a 96-piece orchestra has created a new recording especially for the experience, featuring the 8 diverse classical pieces of music from the original film including The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, The Rite of Spring, Night on Bald Mountain and Nutcracker Suite.
And the bar? Available was an array of drinks fit for any sugarplum fairy, including colour-changing gins in floral flavours like lavender and rose.
For an alternative night out, go and experience the magic yourself. See website for details.
Sounds and Sorcery, The Vaults, until 30th September 2018
